Did you know that Dyess Air Force Base isn't near Wichita Falls? Actually, its right outside Abilene, TX, 161 miles west of Fort Worth. Gee, I wish I knew that yesterday when I was planning my trip out to Wichita Falls. Caught off-schedule, I rushed out this morning at 7:25 AM half-dressed and in desperate need of a good shave. Smell check - acceptable. No time for breakfast because I've got a 10:00 AM appointment to make and Yahoo! says that it'll take me 3 hours and 9 minutes.
But then again, I'm the craziest driver to hit the streets. I'm blazing at 80 to 85 miles per hour while I'm trying to tie my shoes (no hands on the steering wheel). Teeth check - no spots, but I've got one hell of a cow lick. Not to worry because I roll into the visitor's center around 10:05 AM ticket-free.
My interview today was with the U.S. Air Force JAG Graduate Law Program, which is a two-year ROTC program for law students. If selected, I would join the ROTC detachment at Texas Christian University and attend a four-week field training encampment before my 2L year. If you're interested in military service after law school, the USAF program is enticing. You receive a tax-free stipend each month during law school and you're eligible for ROTC scholarships. Plus, You're guaranteed a job upon graduation and promotion to captain after 6-months of active duty. (Reen, then I'll really be Captain Jack).
Suprisingly, I made it back in time for Property. However, what the hell is up with gas prices? $37.37 for a tank of gas ... geez, I can't wait to get that stipend.
