whyjack.blogs.com > RUGBY oh my Rugby

It all started with four people last year. Now, a year later, the Texas Wesleyan Law School Rugby Club numbers 18 with full front and back lines.

I can remember how last semester kicked off with only 6 players running doing drills. That was when practice was every Thursday. As our year progressed, we recruited more night-time students and 1Ls. Like Big Bird and F-Bomb, folks with lots of pent up hostility. The first time we played 60% tackle was the day we began looking like a real team. By then, practices were Thursdays and Saturdays.

All throughout the year, there was one game in mind. The one against SMU Law. Uniforms were cool because they were durable because T-shirts aren't so durable. Ladies, should come to practice for a glimpse at Versace. We were the jocks of law school. A football team with our own cheerleaders. Heck, we even wore our jerseys on game day.

By the end, practices were Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. You got an earful from Captain Freezy Pop if you didn't show up. Wish we could say the same for the pansy SMU flyboys across town. We ended playing a hodge-podge team out of Irving.
